I was watching CNN the other day (actually on the internet) and they were discussing a brand new beauty technique that some women are undergoing. Get ready for this: Laser Vaginal Rejuvenation. Costing upwards of $12,000, it has some medical reasons, such as relieving major pain during intercourse. A woman can also have her hymen reattached, giving her the experience of being a virgin once again.
Yet there some major problems with this...
For many women, this is simply a matter of cosmetic surgery. Why cosmetic? Well, many women are not happy with what they look like, and this includes their vaginas. Thus many of them will bring in a copy of some form of pornography (like Hustler) and show the doctor what they want their vagina to look like.
I believe that Dr. Hilda Hutcherson (a gynecologist) hit it on the head why this is a disaster for women: ‘It’s bad enough we have to get collagen…to get rid of wrinkles, to have our breasts altered to look like a Barbie doll, when does it end? Now our vagina has to look a certain way?'
One women who came to get the surgery stated: ‘You get depressed b/c you’re looking not like you think you should look.’ The question I would have for this woman is 'who gave you the idea of what you should look like?'
Most likely, if these women were honest with themselves, it would be b/c of the men in their lives. That's right, the men are the one's who are influencing the women to have this, b/c they don't find their wives to be attractive anymore. They have been so sold out to this pornographic culture, they have a fallen understanding of who a woman is, believing that she is to be a sort-of pleasure centre that is to meet every one of a man's sexual needs at the drop of a hat, that they pressure their women to go through with these type of surgeries.
I found this whole issue very odd, for women aren't the one's who are going to be interested in the way their vagina looks, unless it is the men who are making comparisons of them. These type of men have lost the true understanding of a woman's dignity, that they are called to love their wives as they are, and helping to make them holy by their love. Men are to strive to love their wives as Christ loves the Church. Men are an image of Christ, while women are the image of the Church. In regard to this issue, as Ephesians 5: 27 says, 'that he might present to himself the church in splendor, without spot or wrinkle or any such thing, that she might be holy and without blemish.' Every woman has this beauty written into her very body, and although she may physically change because of her age, it is the man's duty to love her and see her with the eyes of God. It is his love that will purify her, where in turn that love will deepen and he will be able to see a beauty that is so much more than simply skin deep.
Any man who fails to see his wife in the same way as he committed his life to her on the altar 10 years after the fact is failing at his mission. Sadly, this is the present state of our society, b/c men are trained not by the Gospel, but by Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Edition. The more that a guy views these images, mostly likely he will start to compare those fallen images in his head with those woman around him. And if he is looking for the perfect breasts, the smoothest skin, or the 'perfect' vagina, he will be disappointed in his wife. And she will feel it. This is why some women go to this extreme, getting these surgeries, in trying to gain the love of their husband, but unfortunately, he's not there. He's checked out. His mind is at the magazine isle at his local supermarket.
This is a call for us men to strive to see women with the eyes of faith, so that they will not have to go through these types of procedures in pursuit of an impossible standard of beauty.
At the very least, it will save them from shelling out twelve grand.
